Dr. Mariya Kalapsazova graduated from the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy – Sofia, specialty Organic Chemical Technology. Later she started working at the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, where in 2017 she defended his doctoral dissertation in professional field Chemical Sciences (Solid State Chemistry), with the dissertation topic “Sodium intercalation oxides as cathode materials for environmental ion batteries.” During the doctoral studies Mariya specialized in a leading group in the field of alkaline ion batteries at the University of Cordoba, Spain, under the guidance of Prof. Tirado. In the period 2018-2019 she was a postdoctoral researcher in one of the world’s leading research organizations in the field of electrochemistry and energy systems – Helmholtz Institute Ulm (HIU), Germany, as a scholarship holder of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The topic of her research is “Ionic liquid electrolytes for directing the lithium and sodium intercalation in hybrid-ion batteries”, and her supervisor is Prof. Passerini. Mariya has received a number of awards from scientific forums, an excellent project in the program of the Ministry of Education and Science and BAS for “Supporting young scientists and PhD students at BAS”, and she is also the first laureate of the award “Prof. Hristo Balarev” for “A prominent young scientist in the field of inorganic chemistry”.
